Joel Schlemowitz and Dawn Elliot are magic lanternists who will be presenting the “greatest show on earth for the money!” The magic lantern was invented in the 17th century, and by the 19th century had become a widely practiced form of popular entertainment. Magic lantern performers Dawn Elliott and Joel Schlemowitz present a 19th century magic lantern show, featuring a mix of stories, visual interludes, with accompanying narration, music, and sound effects.
The repertoire of original glass slides includes comical slip-slides with animated images and visual gags, the droll verse-story of the "Educated Cats," a series of magic lantern slides on the subject of women and bicycles, and 19th century nautical disaster poem by Felicia Hemans: "The Wreck."
Elliott & Schlemowitz, Magic Lanternists have received awards from the Victorian Society NY and the Magic Lantern Society UK for their presentations.
The event will be held outdoors on the bluestone patio at 7:30pm. Admission is $15. Tickets will be sold at the door. Rain date is Sunday, May 14th.
